I wrote a Samcentric fic. I'm uploading it up on Fanfiction.net as it's big, but I'm rather proud of this one. It took over my brain while I was supposed to be writing the WOTG fic and the Sam/Janet ficathon fics so had to get put on hold somewhat while those got written.
Basically this one came about because I'd been reading a book about Ghengis Khan and wanted to write about Mongols. It was a lot of fun.

Part One is up, the rest will go up as they get betad and sorted out.
Nope, nope and nope.
Leave me a comment and I will give you a letter (if ya want). Then, write 10 things that you love starting with that letter. Post the list in your journal and expand on them. Give out letters to your commenters in return.
pengyn gave me the letter T (apparently for trouble, she must have me confused with someone else)

I hadn't really planned to take much of a holiday this summer. I had an extended holiday in February and went away for a week in May so I thought that was enough and I hadn't planned on taking any other days off until AT4 time.
However, my best mate is moving back to Sheffield from the Isle of Man at the beginning of September (hurrah!) and he will have passed his driving test on the Island, which has no motorways. Thus his first motorway driving experience is probably going to be on the drive from Liverpool to here, which isn't a particularly nice drive even if you're experienced. It's not too hard to get to the island so I offered to get the train and ferry across to him just before he was due to move, annoy him while he packed, get to see the Isle of Man again (which is certainly no hardship, it's beautiful) and then harass him all the way between Port St Mary and Sheffield (woo!). Rik mentioned that there were some races for the Grand Prix the week preceding his planned move date and wondered if I wanted to come and watch some of the motorbike racing. I've been meaning to go over there and watch some of the racing for a while so I said yes. Later on he suggested I come and marshal rather than just watching, which I also said yes too. So I'm going on holiday at the end of August for the racing through the first week of September :D
I've been booked onto an Incident Management Course (a combination of a St John's ambulance course 'Emergency Aid for Motorcyclists' and specifics about how to clear an incident) I've watched the training DVD through once and Rik is going to collect my orange Hi-vi and warrant card from the office in Douglas for me and I am going to watch bikes zoom and keep the course safe.
A lack of plans has very quickly become very exciting plans!
I had a truly fabulous conversation on the phone today. I was trying to get hold of someone, who we shall call Ermintrude, and I've only got her work number, which we'll call Eric and Sons Bee Tuxedo Fitting Service.
Dozy girl: Hello, Eric and Sons Bee Tuxedo Fitting Service, How can I help?
Me: Hello, can I speak to Ermintrude please?
Dozy Girl: Oh, one minute
*phone clatters onto the desk, paper rustles, phone is picked up*
Dozy Girl: Um, she doesn't work on Saturdays.
*pause*
Me: Today is Wednesday, does she work today?
Dozy Girl, turning from phone and talking to someone behind her: It's Wednesday, what do I do?
*unclear speach*
Dozy Girl: I'll put you on with my Manager.
Manager, in her best 'I'm annoyed with you already because you're flustering my staff so I am being extra polite' voice: Hello, how can I help?
Me: Hello, I'm trying to speak to Ermintrude. If she isn't here today could you tell me when would be a better time to call?
Manager: She works Thursdays and Fridays.
Me: Thank you, I'll try again tomorrow.
I don't think I've ever managed to confuse someone so much over the phone.

I played rugby today for the first time in about three years. We've played odd tag and touch games and stuff, but it has been that long since we played a full contact match, or several in fact. We played in a sevens tournament up at Brighouse and actually managed to get a full squad of ten together! (Seven players and three subs)
It was so much fun. I have really really missed rugby, but had forgotten just HOW much until that first minute of the first match when I ran in with the ball and got smacked to the ground by an obliging member of the opposing team. We were rusty, but we hadn't forgotten how to play, which was a relief. I think the average age of our team was 35, and that was including Em who is only 17 and had never played a game of rugby before.
It was good, it was better than good in fact and managed to surprise ourselves by getting through to the final. Unfortunately that meant we had to play a particularly insane team from Huddersfield (I mean insane in that they had excessively violent reactions to things that are a normal part of a game of rugby). They punched Em the first time we played them and tried to start a brawl.
We lost the final alas. They were faster than us and we're old and slow, but we enjoyed it. It was marred by them being obnoxious and one of the mens teams on the final peppering the match with loud and vulgar comments about what we might like to do that evening (apparently women playing rugby undermined their masculinity). Thankfully we couldn't really hear them while we were on the pitch and morons are really easy to ignore.
The highlight of the day was a game we played against the local team who were a really nice bunch of women. It was fairly even and we were both playing good rugby, but with a really good attitude and they want to come to our ground later in the summer and play a sevens match against us there, which is something to look forward to! Other highlights include the bump on my head where I collided with Maria, a few cracking dump tackles where I managed to pick someone right up in the air, and some cracking runs where I managed to sidestep and hand off most of the opposition before someone finally got hold of me.
My head hurts, my knees sting from grazes, tomorrow I will ache, but I really enjoyed that and can't wait to do it again.
Collectormania tomorrow....because I need more excitement in my life. :D
